International Meeting: "The Ministry and Formation of Deacons Today"

The International Meeting "The Ministry and Formation of Deacons Today," promoted by the Dicastery for the Clergy, will take place from 11 to 13 February 2027 in the New Synod Hall, Vatican City.

The initiative is specifically addressed to Diocesan, Regional and National Delegates and Representatives, as well as to those engaged in the initial and ongoing formation of Deacons, with the aim of offering a moment of dialogue, listening and reflection on one of the most significant realities in the life of the Church: the diaconal ministry.

The proceedings will open with a presentation of the Dicastery's competencies with regard to the Diaconal Ministry, followed by a report on the outcomes of the consultation process, including an analysis of the responses received, the statistical data gathered, and their interpretation. On Thursday 11 and Friday 12 February, sessions will be devoted respectively to the initial formation and the ongoing formation of deacons, structured through plenary presentations and listening tables coordinated by experts, aimed at identifying shared elements useful for the revision of the Ratio and the Directory for the ministry and life of permanent deacons. The days will also include special assemblies, organized according to the different categories of participants (delegates, representatives, formators), intended to highlight points of consensus as well as issues requiring further examination.

The Meeting will conclude on Saturday 13 February 2027 with Holy Mass in St. Peter's Basilica and a special Audience with the Holy Father Leo XIV.
