Appointment of His Most Reverend Excellency Mons. Carlo Roberto Maria Redaelli as the new Secretary of the Dicastery for the Clergy

22 January 2026

We joyfully announce the appointment of His Most Reverend Excellency Mons. Carlo Roberto Maria Redaelli as the new Secretary of the Dicastery for the Clergy.

Ordained a priest in 1980 and a bishop in 2004, Mons. Redaelli has carried out his ministry with pastoral dedication and profound service to the Church. He has received solid canonical formation, deepening his study of canon law, which he has put to good use both in teaching and in the exercise of his ministry.

In his episcopal ministry, as Auxiliary Bishop of Milan and Archbishop of Gorizia, he has served the Church with a spirit of communion, attention to the clergy, and pastoral sensitivity, promoting ecclesial co-responsibility and care for vocations, in constant dialogue with the local territory and its communities.

In his new role, he is called to collaborate in the care of the ordained ministry, priests and deacons, of vocations, and in the service of ecclesial communion, placing his pastoral and canonical experience at the service of the universal Church.

To the new Secretary Archbishop we extend our most sincere best wishes for fruitful work, accompanied by prayer and the fraternal closeness of the entire Dicastery.

We express our deep gratitude to the Holy Father Pope Leo XIV and entrust the ministry of His Excellency Mons. Redaelli to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
